The XMAX 400 is the big brother of the range, between the XMAX 300 and the TMAX. It's no longer sold new in Europe, but plenty are still on the road: a graphics kit makes it look like a recent scooter again.

Updated 30 October 2026
The XMAX 400 reached Europe in 2013, with the 395 cc engine from the Majesty. Yamaha pitched it as the step between the XMAX and the TMAX. In 2018 it took on the design of the XMAX 300 launched the year before. With Euro 5, it left the European line-up around 2020-2021.
| Version | Model years | What matters for graphics |
|---|---|---|
| XMAX 400 (1st generation) | 2013 to 2017 | Bodywork unique to the first XMAX 400 |
| XMAX 400 (300-style design) | 2018 to 2020-2021 | XMAX 300 lines, longer chassis |
Our ready-to-fit XMAX 400 kits are listed for 2017-2024. Is your XMAX 400 from a crossover year, or imported? Send a side photo: we'll confirm the kit fits, or go custom.
Same style, not the same scooter: the XMAX 400 has a longer wheelbase and longer rear suspension than the 300. The side panels and some joints change size. A kit is cut to the millimetre: pick the XMAX 400 one.
Keep textured black plastic out of the project: vinyl won't stay on it. And on a scooter a few years old, repair cracked plastics first: the film doesn't hide cracks.
The XMAX 400 has the stature of a big scooter: long, flowing designs like FLOW show it off. For a race look, REPLICA; for character, ENERGY or VINTAGE.
For a 1st-generation XMAX 400 or a one-off design, try your ideas in the design studio, then start a custom project. The Fez workshop draws the kit on your parts and shows you the render before cutting.
Allow a few hours in the shade, ideally with two people for the long side panels. It's all in the fitting guide. To keep the colours in the sun, read the sun care guide, and to compare with the TMAX, the maxi-scooter guide.
The 1st generation (2013 to 2017) has different bodywork from the 2018 version. Send a photo: if no ready-to-fit kit matches, we'll offer a custom kit.
Not without checking. The 400 has a longer wheelbase than the 300, so the side panels differ in size. Take the XMAX 400 kit.
It left Yamaha's European line-up around 2020-2021, when Euro 5 arrived. Many are still on the road, and our kits remain available.
A few hours for a careful person, longer if it's your first time. Don't rush, work in the shade. Fitting is also available at the Fez workshop.
